THE FIELD NOTEBOOK

Good habits make
a generous table.

A few short observations about sharing the route, reading a card and making the next round feel welcoming.

NOTE 01

One voice for one event.

Choose a reader for the weather passage. Let the whole instruction finish before anyone moves a piece. A shared understanding is more useful than a fast reaction.

NOTE 02

Keep a visible history.

Place resolved cards beside the route in their order of use. When a total seems surprising, the table can follow the round back through its own decisions.

NOTE 03

Let a first round be practice.

A new player does not need a performance target. Show one move, explain its result and leave space for an ordinary question. The score will make sense soon enough.

NOTE 04

Use a pause marker.

Stop after a station has been fully resolved. Leave the boat on that station and say where the next move begins. There is less to remember when the state is visible.

NOTE 05

A different colour is not enough.

Follow Chartroom Derby through the original launch, catch deck, Scatter lane, Bonus Dock and Trophy Lamp rules. This is a fictional tabletop guide with no digital round simulation, checkout or saved score.

NOTE 06

Close with the choice, not just the score.

Ask which decision was most memorable. A careful pass at the dock or an unexpected weather card often says more about the round than the final number.
